When asked why she chose to pursue the position of YCC Events Director, Jaime Halberstam ’16 did not hesitate before responding: “I want to foster a sense of greater community on campus… that, and it will fast-track me to becoming a high-end wedding planner.”
This “wedding planner-to-be” need not worry because in addition to her uncontested race, she has the enthusiastic support of The Politic.
Beyond her concrete vision for next year, Halberstam will surely bring much-needed YCC experience to the incoming Executive Committee. Currently a Silliman College YCC representative, member of the YCC events committee and two-year consecutive member of the Spring Fling committee, Halberstam’s background is matched only by her charisma and passion for the position.
“My job is simple and straightforward,” Halberstam noted, “It is literally just to make people happy.” With goals of continuing past major events like Spring Fling, Final Cut and Mr. Yale while innovating new projects that get Yalies to engage with New Haven, including trips to the Farmer’s Market and dinners with local New Haven chefs, The Politic is confident that Halberstam will bring both sense and creativity to the position.
While Halberstam advocates for raising the Student Activities Fee in order to support a Spring Fling on par with other universities, The Politic is skeptical of any major changes in the year to come.
At the end of the day, however, Halberstam enthusiastically has Politic support because who couldn’t support a candidate the campaigns on the platform of “puppy office hours.”
