For YCC Events Director, The Politic endorses Amour Alexandre.

Decades from now, what will we remember of these bright college years? Chances are, our most vivid memories will stem from the events: dancing to Diplo under the rain at Spring Fling, watching President Salovey boogie to bluegrass at his inaugural block party, gazing up at the stars at the Yale planetarium. Both of this year’s candidates for YCC Events Director have helped make these moments a reality. Both Megan Ruan and Amour Alexandre boast resumes that highlight their accomplishments as multi-year members of the Events Committee and we are sure that both could effectively lead it going forward.

But to make the upcoming year as bright as possible, we endorse Amour Alexandre for her detailed plan of action. Alexandre promises an exciting trio of initiatives. With YCC Collaborate, student groups could submit their events and win a monetary boost from the YCC. Under Yalie’s Choice, all students could vote on future YCC events. And YCC Reality Checks would perhaps help us reduce that nagging feeling that we aren’t prepared for leaving Yale and being actual “adults.”

We also hope that Alexandre makes good on some of her other campaign promises: reviving the Fall Show and directing the Events Committee to hold smaller, niche events. After all, the Yale social scene offers much more than the biggest campus events; it’s in our niches where we really thrive. Alexandre’s vision excites us, but it also remains in the realm of possibility. We look forward to seeing what she can do.
